Cleric

A Cleric (unofficial term) is a demon used to cleanse ailments.

  • These demons are able to cleanse all ailments (usually for the whole party at once).
  • They are also immune to all ailments (or at least to Bind, Charm, and Mute, which are all the ones that could disrupt cleansing). Note that immunity (for example Null Charm) is a flag that makes the affected ailment always fail, regardless of its success chance.

It's possible to make pseudo-clerics through a high Luck stat and ailment-chance-down skills such as Infernal Mask, but those can still fail against foes with a high ailment chance. It's much safer to just bring fully-immune clerics.

For consistency, Clerics should act first among their party, so they can cleanse ailments before any ailmented teammates have a chance to waste turns, hit each other due to Charm, etc. Team order is determined by the agility (agi) stat, but can be adjusted by using Lead or Trail brands if necessary - this is especially helpful if the Cleric has low agi, and/or teammates have high agi.

No transfers needed[edit]

These demons are ready to be used as cleansers without needing transfers.

Demon Immunities Cleansing range Notes
Daisoujou All All Targets All Targets The cleanse is tied to Cleansing Shout, but there is a chance he will use Almighty Soul Drain (bad) instead.
Femto All All Targets All Targets
Hathor A Bind, Charm, Mute All Targets All Targets
Lugh All All Targets All Targets
Mahamayuri All All Targets All Targets
  • Cleanse occurs automatically at the start of his team's turn. He does not have a manual cleanse.
  • Problematic in Sloth 14, where if his team outspeeds, then his cleanse happens before the ailments every turn - i.e. no cleanse for you. This can be fixed with a Prayer/Silent Prayer transfer.
Maria All All Targets All Targets
  • Her cleanse (via Salvation) is limited to 3 uses and costs 9 MP per cast. If panel 1, this is upgraded to 9 uses at 6 MP per cast.
  • Limited uses can be a problem in long fights. If not panel 1, the MP cost is also very high.
Okuninushi All All Targets All Targets
Party Moh Shuvuu Bind, Charm, Mute All Targets All Targets
  • Needs panel 1 to get immunities.
  • Her innate cleanse only covers Bind/Charm/Mute/Curse (doesn't cover Poison and Weak)
  • If cleansing Poison and Weak is important, then she may need a Prayer/Silent Prayer transfer for consistency.
Peri Bind All Targets All Targets
  • Automatically cleanses the entire team at the start of any team member's action. She does not have a manual cleanse (but she also doesn't need one).
  • This timing avoids Mahamayuri's issues, as her cleanse happens after Sloth 14's ailments are applied each turn.
  • Since she is immune to bind, her cleanse will always happen.
Raphael Bind, Charm, Mute All Targets All Targets
  • Cleanse is tied to Force Tailwind.
  • In Sloth, he might not consistently use Tailwind to cleanse unless the enemies are weak to Force (via Force affinity down).
    • Raphael can provide this himself at p2, but you'll need to bring 2 other angels to activate it.
    • Alternatively, his Yellow Yellow archetype offers Prayer as another method of cleansing.
Ushio Aotsuki Bind All Targets All Targets
  • Needs Panel 2 to get Null Bind, and the automatic team cleanse at the start of his action. He does not have a manual cleanse.
  • Ideally he should act first in the party (although, that is already common practice for Clerics anyway).

Needs transfers[edit]

These demons can be used as cleansers, but require transferring one or more skills first - generally any missing Bind/Mute/Charm immunities, or Prayer/Silent Prayer to do cleansing.

  • Since Silent Prayer removes your party's Good Status Effects, Prayer is preferred as a cleansing skill.

Edge cases[edit]

The following demons could work as cleansers in theory, but have some issues limiting their performance in that role.

Demon Immunities Cleansing range Notes
Apsu All None
  • Grants immunity to party members that have Lydia. But he can't re-apply Lydia, so this is not practical in long fights.
  • Is not immune to anything while Lydia is not up, creating a vulnerability window.
  • Does not have an innate cleanse, so needs a Prayer/Silent Prayer transfer.
  • Taking turns to cleanse may take away from his DPS.
Dagon Bind, Charm, Mute None
  • Gets immunity to Bind/Charm/Mute when he has Might. He can re-apply it, but will probably need an ally to assist with that.
  • Is not immune to anything while Might is not up, creating a vulnerability window.
  • Does not have an innate cleanse, so needs a Prayer/Silent Prayer transfer.
  • Taking turns to cleanse may take away from his DPS.
Demeter All None
  • Grants immunity to party members that have Bulwark.
  • Is not immune to anything while Bulwark is not up, creating a vulnerability window.
  • Does not have an innate cleanse, so needs a Prayer/Silent Prayer transfer.
  • Taking turns to cleanse may take away from her Bulwark casting (which can then take away from the immunities)
Griffith Bind, Charm, Mute All Targets All Targets
  • Needs panel 1 to get his immunities.
  • Only cleanses when he scores a kill - this is not practical for long fights. May need a Prayer/Silent Prayer transfer for consistency.
  • Taking turns to cleanse may take away from his DPS.
Hayataro All None
  • Grants immunity to all party members, if all of them have Fortify. Also starts the battle by giving his team 1 count of Fortify, and it doesn't expire over time.
  • This is generally fine, as long as enemies have no means of removing Fortify or applying Decay.
  • However, if even one party member's Fortify is removed, then the entire team loses the protection. He also has no way of re-applying Fortify if it is lost.
  • Does not have any innate cleanse as backup in case things go south. A Prayer/Silent Prayer transfer might not solve the issue, since if his party members are vulnerable, then so is he.

Misc notes:

  • Narcissus: Despite his good immunities, he will always Charm himself and attack his teammates, meaning he won't cast a Prayer/Silent Prayer transfer.
