Official Profile[edit]
The Egyptian creator god and sun god. Formed through the syncretism of Amun, the god of the Theban region, with the sun god Ra.
The fortunes of Egypt’s gods were heavily influenced by royal devotion. Amun, too, was originally an obscure deity, but he grew in power once the princes of Thebes came to rule Egypt, merging with the sun god Ra—known as the “father of the gods”—to become an object of popular worship. He was first depicted as a goose, but later came to be associated with the ram, an image that endured.
